Using Gatelab with Ableton, MIDI Learn mode only works when the plugin is alone and ungrouped on a blank MIDI track

I am using Ableton 11.2 and Gatelab 1.1.3. The internal parameters (like the global dice button which cannot be accessed from Ableton’s session view), can only be mapped to my MIDI controller when the plugin is ungrouped on a MIDI track with no other plugins and no MIDI instrument. If I group Gatelab into a rack, add another plugin, add an instrument, or try to use it on an audio track, the MIDI learn feature stops working.
