Playbeat - How to control volume levels during MIDI playback

It appears that all of the controls over the playback of samples in Playbeat for iPad are done from the pattern editor, so that when external MIDI input is used, it ignores the velocity levels, and the mixer has no effect either (mute/solo/level). Is that correct? If so, are there recommendations for how to control playback of the samples in Playbeat when using MIDI in? I’ve got a new drum pattern creator app and I would like to use it to play the kits in Playbeat. Even if there was a way to record in the MIDI from the app into Playbeat, or import a MIDI file that would be close enough.

Hi @edzbflat
Could you please explain your setup and routing? Are you using Playbeat to trigger the one-shot samples from another app?

Sure. I’m using Midistep from 4Pockets in AUM, routing MIDI out from it into Playbeat 3, and using it as a drum kit. I’ve tried sending MIDI into Playbeat from other apps too and it’s the same. It receives the MIDI notes and triggers the samples just fine, after I mapped them to each track, but it doesn’t seem to apply the velocity on the incoming notes.

We’re working on an update to address that, stay tuned!
