I’m getting Highg CPU usage on Playbeat 4 in standalone and as AUv3.
when loaded in AUM Playbeat4 CPU reads between 40% up to 80% on my ipad 9th,
on ipad Pro M2 i’m getting between 35%-60% on CPU !
when playbeat doesn’t even play anything!
this is way to much just for one plugin doing nothing .
IOS 17.6
I can confirm the same on my iPad Pro M1 model. Playbeat 4 is using 30-50% DSP when playing a factory preset in AUM vs. Playbeat 3 which is using 2-6% for a typical a factory preset.
Edit: This is iPadOS 18.3.1
thanks Ed, it’s good to know i’m not alone, i hope it can be fix soon.
i’m wonder ,How does the IOS 18.3 handles music production Apps for you ?
No issues with any of the music production apps that I use (although many had minor fixes right after). The last one that I had serious trouble with was with iOS17, and only one app.
Sorry to hear that. This shouldn’t be happening, we’ve tested it on various iPad models and usage shouldn’t exceed ~20% in any case. Could you share the sample rate and especially the buffer size used in your AUM project?
Hi Audiomodern,sure.
buffer size 256 frames, 48000 Hz.
Here are the settings from my AUM session
Edit: FYI - Changing the buffer size from 128 to 256 drops the CPU usage from the 40’s into the 30’s on this project.
And the settings exported:

Unfortunately Latest update didn’t help with Huge DSP and CPU spikes.
Still getting over 35% usage on one instance
of Playbeat 4 open in AUM.
We’re currently investigating this, thanks for your patience.
I think it might have something to do with multicore rendering.
Audio threads not efficiently spreading on Power Cores and Efficiency Cores.
Don’t use Logic , so i can’t test it, but on Cubasis 3 i was able to run 4 instances of Playbeat4
with DSP rarely jumping over 25% on Ipad 9th.
As far as i know CB3 muli core suport is quite good at the moment ,so maybe it’s an indication…
Update - Just installed version 4.0.4 today and CPU usage in the same scenarios looks much better. There are still some CPU spikes where AUM reports max CPU during random regeneration, remix or AI generation , but only for a second. CPU typically floats between 20-35%, with 30% being about typical. That’s very usable for me. Hope others are seeing improvements too.
