Well I bit the bullet and bought one of the sound packs for Soundbox because I genuinely love Audiomodern’s plugins… and this is why demos are important
Testing out both user created sounds and the Kromium sound pack with MPE and the pitchbend does not work correctly.
I tried it out using both my MPE controller sending chords with MPE pitch bend data from Chordjam. No matter what I do the bends from chord to chord end up with completely out of pitch and sour notes. It’s like the pitch bend range on Soundbox is set too high (96 semitones?) or to some random value.
I tired setting Chordjam’s MPE range from the standard 48 semitones to 36,24 and 12 and none of the settings make a difference. Since it only goes up to 48 (the standard) I could not try 96 (my MPE controller only goes up to 48 as well).
Also tested out the same exact setup (including Chordjam) with my other MPE soft synths to rule out any other potential issues and it’s working just fine with Klevgrand’s Tomofon, My Cherry Audio synths that support MPE, etc.
Unless there is some place that you can enter in a custom pitch bend range that I’m missing this is definitely a bug.
There’s an MPE pitchbend range parameter in the settings which might be your issue. Settings button can be viewed in the top left when you have all control windows and everything closed.
I have yet to get MPE functioning at all. I even placed an MPE monitor device in front Soundbox in Ableton Live to confirm MPE is sending to Sound box, which it is. Even though it’s receiving the correct data I can’t get pitch bend or the slide modulation to work.
Thank you. I didn’t see that there, I did look for the a settinsgs button, but apparently not hard enough.
The problem is it doesn’t do anything. Changing the value doesn’t seem to affect what MPE range that the plugin is receiving, or it’s not changing it properly.
Again this is testing this feature out using Audiomodern’s own plugin (Chordjam) as the MPE source as well as trying my MPE controller. Neither work properly with Soundbox yet work fine with every other MPE enabled soft synth I own. Hence thinking this is some sort of bug.
Just to be absolutely sure it’s not something on my end I made sure to update to the latest version of REAPER and Chrodjam. Still getting the same issue with the MPE range not registering correctly.
Upon a bit more investigation the range does indeed seem to be doubled, so what Soundbox thinks is a 48 semitone range is actually acting like 96, which as far as I know isn’t even a thing (every MPE thing I own only goes up 48).
So at least in my DAW there is some sort of issue with Soundbox. I don’t have another to test this out with. Maybe someone with Live, Cubase, Bitwig etc. can chime in letting me know if it’s working correctly for them.
It’s a great plugin either way. I was just really excited about the prospect of an MPE enabled sampler.
I note that they replied in comments to their main youtube feature intro video, confirming that MPE support is currently not working and that they need to issue a fixed version.
