Custom Range Locking Randomize

Let’s say I have locked each lane to a particular note, or range of notes using custom range feature, for example, lane 1 C1, lane 2 d1-e1, lane 3 f#1…etc. Why is it that when i click the big orange randomize button it doesn’t respect these settings? I’m I missing a toggle or something? Shouldn’t it work like this? I’ve even tried setting this up and turning off each lane’s pitch to not randomize but it never respects my settings. The only “workaround” is to click the pitch random for each lane for it to lock into that setting. What setting I’m not clicking to allow it to behave the way I want?

I’m aware about midi out, but it can’t output random range for any lane which the custom range offers as I’d like some lanes to output a range of notes to trigger a midi vst. That’s the main use case I want to work with.

Hi @Nerldy

This randomize button is configured to follow custom settings on each tab rather than the main one. Can you confirm that it’s working for you?

It is working, but let me explain the workflow I’m trying maybe I didn’t explain well.

I am using Playbeat 4 as a MIDI sequencer to trigger external drums (Superior Drummer 3). I need a workflow where “Global Randomize” respects specific pitch ranges or locked notes per track.

The Current Problem: When I click the Global Randomization (Big Dice) button, Playbeat resets the pitch of all tracks to default values (e.g., C3). This destroys my custom MIDI mapping.

  • Track 1 (Kick): I need this locked to C1. Global randomization should create steps but never change the pitch.

  • Track 2 (Snare): I want this to randomize between D1, D#1, and E1 (different snare articulations). Global randomization should shuffle both the steps AND the pitch, but only within that specific range.

  • Other Tracks: Should remain mapped to their respective hits (F1, etc.) without resetting to C3.

Desired Behavior: I need the ability to “Lock” the pitch value for some tracks so they only randomize Steps/Density, while allowing other tracks to randomize Pitch within a user-defined range (Min/Max Note) during a Global Randomization event.

Current Workaround (Inefficient): Currently, I have to click the dice for each track individually to avoid resetting the entire kit’s mapping. This kills the “happy accident” workflow that Playbeat is known for.

Understood, So the goal is to randomize the Pitch across all sequencers using custom settings, all from one single button. This button combination has been replaced by the other new functions in version 4 such as the pattern + sounds randomization, but we’ll see how we can bring this back. Thanks for your patience.
