Playbeat 4 - Add Back Custom Range

I understand that the complexity slider now governs the amount of randomization that Steps, Density, Pitch, Volume and Pan receive… however, in Playbeat 3 you could set a custom range. I see that is still here in 4 but only for the Pitch tab.

It was quite useful for Volume and Pan. Particularly when using Playbeat to sequence other plugins or hardware.

I’m not sure if that can be added back in 4 or not? It’s obviously there for Ptich so I’m assuming it could and still play nice with the rest of the new algorithm if implemented in the same way as it is with Pitch?

Lots of welcome changes, keep up the great work, having the bottom Keyboard section from Loopmix is awesome!

Hi, the complexity slider behaves differently when used for the tab compared to when it’s applied to the pattern. In the separate tabs it still adjusts various min/max settings in the background, ranging from subtle variations to more extreme ones.

We designed it this way to make it quicker and easier for users to achieve results without needing to fine-tune specific parameters. However, we left the pitch section with more detailed controls where finer adjustments are necessary. Instead, we currently have a control that forces the tab to a specific setting.

It wouldn’t be difficult to bring the slider back, and if more users request it, we will certainly consider doing so. If it’s an easy workaround, we can implement it regardless.

There is far less control with this approach compared to playbeat 3 though. It’s definitely more efficient for making patterns quickly, but for the times, I say want my hihat track to go between a volume of 64-127 (PB3 values) and to pan off to the left and right by a value of 15 there is no way to accomplish this.

So I now have playbeat 3 witch can do this, but no pattern management (the bottom keyboard section in PB4) and vice versa.

Understood! If you set the complexity to around 56% for volume and 26% for pan, you’ll achieve the same result without needing to manually enter four different values. However, we understand that precise control can be valuable for certain use cases. We’ll look into the best way to bring this back.

Min / max value ranges work really well with randomization.

This exactly! Maybe an option to enable an adavced mode where users can enter in specific values when needed. Then you can have the best of both worlds.

It would be a very nice feature to have for sure :+1:

Another vote for bringing the sliders back, please!
