Is MIDI import on Playbeat 4.0.7 for iPad working?

Has anyone tried the MIDI import on Playbeat 4.0.7 for iPad? I’ve tried to drag and drop a MIDI file from the Files app onto the tracks/steps view or possibly the MIDI Import settings page inside of settings, since it turns to a green (+) symbol when dragged and dropped over it, which I’ve seen work in other iOS apps, but so far, I’m not getting any steps to appear. I’ve used MIDI files created with the notes to match those set in the MIDI import settings, both exported from Playbeat itself and Logic Pro for iPad.

Hi @edzbflat ,
Can you check if the files contain multiple MIDI tracks? The MIDI import currently only considers the first track, but we can modify it to merge all tracks and process them as a single one.

Yes - I’m quite sure that I tested a single single MIDI track scenario, although I was not aware that the import would only consider the first track. To test it, I’ve used a couple different ways:

Export the MIDI from Playbeat selecting Track 1 only and save to a file, Note C1.
Export to MIDI from Logic Pro using only one note and one track only, Note C1 (MIDI 36) (Export selection as MIDI file).
Record to MIDI from Playbeat using another app (Helium) to a single track and export to a MIDI file.
Drag and drop the MIDI file onto Track 1 in Playbeat, with MIDI import for Track 1 set to C1.
No steps appear.

The MIDI export from Playbeat appears to be two bars long, so I made sure the other MIDI files were the same length. The MIDI import settings for Track 1 are set to note C1. I’ve also used other tools to inspect the MIDI files and they all appear to be a single track. I’ve checked to make sure that the MIDI note number being used is C1=36 (since there is some variation between apps).

Regarding the possibility of merging all tracks in the MIDI import and processing them as one, that would be fantastic. I suspect there will be a lot of people who have multitrack MIDI files (Type 1, I believe) that they will want to import. Also, from what I understand, the files that I am working with in the test scenario above are Type 0.

I’ll be glad to put together a video and supply the MIDI files for review, or whatever may be needed to analyze this further. Just let me know. Thanks!

It seems to be broken..

Cannot import ANY midi files…

Hi @RajahP ,

Can you please share with us a couple of your MIDI files so we can inspect them? You can reach via PM too.

Sure.. any of PB4’s midi export.. it imports no midi… did you try importing midi?

It appears to be working. For example, if you export the kick track on C1 and map C1 to this track, you’ll see the pattern reflected back in the Playbeat sequencer.

Maybe I’m doing something wrong in the import process. I’ve posted an unlisted video that shows exporting a track from Playbeat and then attempting to import it back in. Any help would be most appreciated.
