How to route midi channels to each layer in Soundbox, with linux Reaper

Hi, new user here. I’ve setup Soundbox in linux, and I’m using Reaper as the host.

I’ve created a track, and loaded Soundbox, then i’ve created 4 more child tracks, each with a specific midi channel (1-4) routed into the track with Soundbox loaded, using sends in reaper. However, no matter how i set this up, i can’t seem to play anything from any of the tracks, without all 4 layers playing at once. There is no other midi input going into the Soundbox track apart from the 4 midi channel specific sends from each of the 4 child tracks.

Am i missing something here in Soundbox’s midi configuration?

Alex.

Hi, Soundbox does not support individual MIDI outputs in the same way it does audio outputs.

Additionally, not many DAWs support this type of routing. To our knowledge, Studio One supports it on desktop, and AUM supports it on iOS.

If we see a growing demand for this feature, we could consider adding it; however, it would still only be supported by a limited number of DAWs.

Ok, thanks for the quick reply.

Just to be clear in my mind, we’re talking about midi routed INTO Soundbox (midi inputs into Soundbox, not outputs out of Soundbox), as a plugin in a track, which is being fed midi data from 4 other tracks, each of which has a send routed to the plugin track, with a specific midi channel number.

I’ll take your word for it in regards to Studio One and AUM, as I don’t use either app, and I’ll add Reaper to that list, as it does this sort of routing well, by default.

I respectfully throw my hat of support into the ring to have the ability to assign midi inputs to layers separately in Soundbox. With orchestral instruments sample packs, like Kompose Studio’s excellent Cello and Viola, there are multiple articulations, which could be assigned to layers, and reduce the number of plugin instances in orchestral projects (for example) with a large number of tracks.

I see. I assumed we were talking about sending Soundbox MIDI from each layer to four separate tracks. We’ll look into how feasible it is to add individual inputs for each layer. There are some planned updates coming soon, and hopefully we can include this as well.

Thank you. It would be useful.
