Gatelab is no longer free

KVR Studio warned me that the version of Gatelab I had on my PC was not current. When I attempted to download an update, there is no update – just the paid version of Gatelab 2.

Hi @DoctorSynth

Version 1.0 was something we were proud to offer for free for a long time. However, Version 2.0 is not just an update, it’s a complete rewrite from the ground up. We rebuilt the app entirely, implemented many of the feature requests users have shared with us over the years, improved the algorithms, and ensured compatibility with modern desktop systems and iOS versions (something Version 1.0 unfortunately could no longer support reliably).

That said, we’ve tried to make the transition as fair as possible:

  • We launched with an introductory offer of $19.

  • Additionally, Gatelab 2 was available for free with any purchase for more than a month after its launch in November, giving existing customers an opportunity to upgrade at a minimal extra cost.

We hope you’ll understand why this step was necessary to keep the app sustainable and future-proof.

Please let us know if you have any other questions, we’re happy to help.

Hey, I have been using V1 of gatelab for years now and had to reset my laptop today and found out that there is no version of V1 to be downloaded. Would it be possible to find a download link for the legacy version as I have used it in many projects I have been working on.

Many thanks in advance!

Hi @selwynhamber ,

The legacy version has been fully replaced by Gatelab 2. Unfortunately, we do not own it and are unable to distribute or provide a copy of Gatelab 1 in any form.

Hi there, thank you so much for your reply.

I’m absolutely happy to purchase Gatelab 2. I genuinely love this plugin and use it all the time. My only concern is that I currently have Gatelab 1 used across a number of active projects, and it’s quite a crucial part of several sounds in those sessions. I’m worried that if Gatelab 2 installs as a separate plugin or replaces the original, it may not load the same way in my DAW, which could significantly affect those projects.

I completely understand if there are policies around this, and I don’t mean to be difficult at all. I just wanted to ask if there’s any possible way you could provide the original Gatelab 1 plugin file temporarily so I can finish the projects I’m currently working on. I would be more than happy to remove it once those sessions are completed.

I really appreciate your help. I’m just feeling a bit unsure about how to move forward and want to make sure I don’t lose important work.

Thank you again for your time and support.

That’s a fair point. It’s quite common for developers to transition to a paid model when the entire codebase has to be rebuilt from scratch to ensure stability on newer operating systems. It sounds like a significant overhaul rather than just a minor patch.
