When I create a Virtual Midi Control Interface on Loopy Pro on the iPad (Buttons to activate randomize samples, Track Mutes, Rhythm randomize etc) PlayBeat 4 crashes. I believe this also happened on v3. I don’t know if this bug is on Loopy’s side, but it definitely works with other midi softsynths etc.
I love PlayBeat so much, it would be so great to pair it with LoopyPro!
Thank you!
Edit: Track Mutes work. random features don’t. random features did work in PlayBeat 3 though.
Thanks for the details. We’ll check this out to determine what’s happening, and if it’s an issue on our end, we’ll update the app accordingly. Thank you for your patience.
hey @Audiomodern , so I tested further, it doesn’t seem to be a problem with loopy pro at all. under aum, I directly took the midi learn feature from PB4 to map the global dice to a pad on a custom mapping on my Launchpad pro mk3. funnily enough, it really seems that PlayBeat 4 is taking the “dice” too literally as you can see in the video, lol. randomize all samples only button behaves similar.
I can confirm this behavior. I’ve been testing all of the MIDI CC mapping controls and there are a few that behave a bit oddly and these are two of them. I am also using PB4 in AUM and when the “Global Dice” button is mapped to Key, for example C-2, and that note is sent, even through the AUM virtual keyboard, it triggers the randomization, and it keeps randomizing even after pressing the key again quickly. The DSP quickly spikes to 100% and then will cause a crash within a few seconds.
Random Sample seems to be a bit more controllable. Assigning note C-2 to that setting will trigger it to rapidly start changing samples, and then another press will slow down the speed, but it will continue until the mapping is reset. This may also cause a fairly high DSP spike.
I have a some questions about the behavior on a few other of the CC controls, but I’ll submit a ticket for those.
Playbeat 4 version 4.0.6
AUM 1.4.7 (352)
Model: iPad Pro (11-inch) (3rd generation)
Operating System: iPadOS 18.3.2
Device Class: iPad
Model Product Type: iPad13,4
Model Number: MHQU3LL/A
Regulatory Model Number: A2377
Note: I would like to emphasize that I’ve been having tremendous fun with Playbeat 4 and I’m very happy with it and the new features and packs.
On my side I can confirm a somewhat similar behaviour, if I map the global random to my controller ( Keylab mk3 ) each time I press the control to activate global dice, Playbeat instance crashes.
