Hi,
I’m using Ableton 12 and have a Komplete A49 keyboard and AkaiMPD218. I’ve tried assigning the pads via CC and via Key but it doesn’t matter as after I’ve come up with a custom set of chords and arps that I have assigned to those pads.. they simply do not trigger using any external midi device and it seems the only way to “jam” is via clicking with your mouse. I bought the Akai just to trigger the ChordJam pads.. and the pads can’t be triggered. I’ve spent 6 hours with an AI agent trying to figure this out and we cannot.
Hi @djtokoloshe
To trigger the Pads section in Chordjam, you have two options:
You can either assign a pad to be triggered by a key on your MIDI keyboard, you have the option to select any key(s) to trigger the pads.

or select a CC number (CC0 - CC127)
In the example above, a hardware controller pad is set to transmit CC31 to trigger Pad 1 in Chordjam.
Have you tried assigning the CC numbers from your MIDI pad controller to trigger the corresponding pads in Chordjam?
Hi AudioModern Support Team,
Thanks for your previous response about triggering ChordJam pads. I’ve followed your instructions but I’m still unable to get the pads to respond to either my AKAI MPD218 controller or my MIDI keyboard.
My Setup:
-
AKAI MPD218 pads configured to send MIDI Notes (NOTE mode) on Channel 1
-
For example: Pad 16 sends Note 51 (D#3)
-
ChordJam is correctly receiving MIDI input (I can see “MPD218 inp” is selected as the input source)
-
I’m working in Ableton Live
The Problem: Neither my AKAI pads nor my MIDI keyboard keys trigger the ChordJam pads at the bottom of the interface (pads 1-8). Nothing happens when I press either controller.
My Questions:
-
Where do I assign the KEY or CC triggers for the pads? Your screenshot shows a “Trigger Pad #2” setup window with KEY/CC options, but I can’t find how to access this window in the ChordJam interface. Is there a specific button or menu I need to click?
-
MIDI Note vs KEY Assignment: My AKAI pads send MIDI Notes (like Note 51, Note 48, etc.). Will ChordJam pads automatically respond to any MIDI note, or do I need to manually assign each MIDI note to a specific pad first?
-
Do the pads need to be in a specific mode? Is there a setting I’m missing that enables pad triggering?
Could you please provide step-by-step instructions for accessing the pad assignment window and configuring pad triggers? A screenshot or video would be extremely helpful.
Thank you!
Thanks for the screenshots. If you click on this drop-down menu, you can choose from which key or CC you want each pad to be triggered. Have you tried that?
