Chordjam (iPad) unfortunately has this weird quirk that is preventing it from doing what I’m looking for. It takes midi input fine, translating pressed keys into chords of the type I’ve chosen, but midi output to my digital piano (Roland FP-90X) overrides the piano’s selected voice and forces it to use the default piano voice. I’ve never encountered this behavior from another midi input mechanism, it’s unique to how Chordjam is doing Midi Out. This occurs when loading Chordjam via AUV3 as well as through the app’s native functionality. I’m using an M1 iPad. Any help figuring out how to fix this behavior would be very appreciated!
Hello @seajay
Thanks for reaching out. This is strange, is this happening when you’re ‘feeding’ your Roland FP-90X in real time with midi coming from Chordjam, or even when you ‘feeding’ it with chords ecported from Chordjam too? Assuming that you have exported the Chords -or- Chord sequences to your DAW.
Thanks for the reply. I’m not using a DAW, this occurs when feeding midi directly from the Chordjam iPad app. I also tried it loaded through AUM and experienced the same behavior.
Could this be a channel relater problem? Have you set a specific midi channel as input for your Roland FP-90X?
I had a similar thought. Unfortunately, while the FP-90X has granular midi transmit settings its receiving functionality is more limited. The manual says “this unit will receive all sixteen channels (1-16).” No settings in the menus or within Roland’s app allow for deeper control.
This automatic routing works flawlessly, however, with each use case I’ve thrown at it, save for Chordjam.
In the Chordjam settings I did try selecting transmit on each of the 16 midi CC channels individually, as well as the OMNI setting, but none had any effect other than maintaining the status quo of pushing the notes to the wrong voice on the piano.
SOLVED!
Roland released an update last week and I just applied it - the issue was on the FP-90X’s side. Apologies for not checking that sooner. Thanks for the troubleshooting!
Thanks for letting us know, have fun!
