Very pleased to announce Midnight Strings, a new completely free ensemble string library. It was made from some of the Iremia recordings, which is a series of solo strings recorded very close while playing very, very soft, so this is an incredibly intimate sounding string ensemble, with a definite Scandi Noir sound. I know, “Scandi Noir” is becoming overused in the sampling world, just like “felt” and “cinematic” but I don’t know what else to call it.

I’ve created my first Soundbox instrument. Bemused - Reverie Atmospheres. In which I used the Reverie app by Parallel Minds to transform my own material and then created a Soundbox instrument.
Funny how you wait for ages then it all happens at once. This wasn’t planned this way. It’s like waiting for a bus then two come along at once. But some time ago I created a Soundbox instrument using samples from Tomislav at Bedroom Producers Blog. I used a set from the Heatwave sample set he produced. And he has kindly given permission for it to be released. It’s free. And will run in the free version of Soundbox. Includes both WAV & FLAC packs.
So many exciting new Soundbox instruments! As a Linux user I’m delighted and went on a shopping spree.
Good times ahead I feel, especially if some developers create Soundbox versions of their existing Windows/Mac libraries! Happy to throw my money at y’all.
Hello everyone! Today we released the third and final instalment of our ‘Pure’ guitars series!
Where Pure Nylon offered warmth and intimacy and Pure Steel String brought vibrancy and definition, new Pure 12-String offers an unmistakable shimmering, glassy sound.
With its strings arranged in pairs, some tuned a full octave apart, it can almost sound like a harpsichord with its peculiar, chiming texture that feels both organic and strikingly cinematic, perfect for building otherworldly soundscapes.

So I took the soundscapes section from the free sample pack by Parallel-Minds . And created a free Soundbox instrument. Fading Memories - Soundscapes.
The original samples were produced by Will at Parallel - Minds using the Tape Memories, and Deteriorating Memories from his app Reverie.
The Soundbox instrument contains 10 presets. All available in the free version of Soundbox (full instructions on import contained in the pack). And the sb.pack is in FLAC to keep the size down to 183mb. Thanks to Will at Reverie for the samples. And do check out Reverie (Windows/Mac/Linux/iOS) for transforming sound.

The Swell
There’s just something about the musical gesture of a swell that immediately imbues even a simple chord progression with emotion – maybe because the swell is reminiscent of a breath, or maybe it’s all the details and human imperfections we captured in these recordings. Whatever it is, inspiration always starts to flow and countless cues have started with these swells.

Hello everyone! Today we released the next two libraries in our Founder’s Locker series - Penombra Celli and Penombra Viole
Penombra means twilight in Italian, that half-lit space between light and dark, and that’s exactly where these sounds live.
From the deep and ominous Rumble Celli and unsettling Warped Celli, to the quivering, tension-building Electric Sparkle and the obscure and multi-layered Refractions in Penombra Viole, the presets in each library add depth, drama and anticipation whether writing for TV, film or video game scoring, or ambient, orchestral or experimental music.
They also take full advantage of Soundbox’s new MPE features released in v1.3. Shape every note individually as you play, pushing the sounds into stranger, darker and more dramatic directions.
Penombra Celli and Penombra Viole are entirely separate libraries, with no content shared between them. Each has its own character, role and sources.
