Lock midi notes /track order/sound engine issues and request

I am having issues with the the way the default patterns and track order have been devised

It appears Playbeat goes against (step sequencer) convention with track 1 at the top of view, and the rest of the tracks consequently laid out in “opposite” fashion. Personally I can’t get used to this., and lay out my hits in exactly the opposite way.

It’s not too much of a problem when making my own patterns and assigning my midi out notes appropriately. Eg I assigned track 8 to trigger my kick and locked the notes, and so on, inversing the Playbeat layout, and visually working “up”.

The problems come when attempting to audition the preset patterns, with my own sounds being triggered on external samplers.

Attempting to do this results in a failure to get anything useful.

First of all, the notes/track order is inversed when changing to factory preset, and i also have to turn down the master fader.

When changing from my default preset to a factory one, and I attempt to swap a track, eg. 1 down to 8 for kick, I don’t get the kick triggered. Copying the pattern does trigger the kick. But i don’t want to copy the pattern. I want to move it. Confusing!

Also, I am under the impression that the AI learning uses the midi out notes, and not wording (eg"snare", hat", or the track icons?) to learn. Thereby making learning a bit difficult for the way I want to work (UP).

So here are my requests:

  1. Option to invert default track order.
  2. Option to swap tracks without messing with midi output notes.
  3. Option to turn off internal sound engine.

I hope this is understood, and if I have missed any settings/got it wrong somewhere, notably with the midi out locking, do let me know.

Thank you.

Hi, The layout array of the kits has followed this structure since version 3, and we hadn’t received any complaints, so we decided to maintain it in the new version. However, we understand that some users might prefer the track array in the opposite direction. We’ll look into the possibility of adding a feature to reverse the track array in the sequencer.

Regarding the MIDI settings when swapping tracks, by design, this also includes the fixed MIDI output note settings. Would you prefer it to swap everything except the fixed MIDI note output instead?

Regarding turning off the sound engine, I assume you’re referring to using Playbeat as a MIDI sequencer. In that case, you can simply mute the track where Playbeat is loaded.

Much appreciated!

I think so, yes.
I viewed the tracks and their midi out note locks as “hardwired” to the order in the track array, and the midi out note lock settings page.
So, when I dragged (swapped) the kick (track 1) from top to bottom (track 8), I was expecting that note pattern to trigger the kick. I would certainly prefer this.

yes, I would do that. But, muting tracks in Reaper mutes the midi. I could use a utility plug in after Playbeat. Just that it would be optimal to simply press a conveniently located button on the Playbeat GUI.

Thank you

Got it, so I assume setting the master volume to zero is the only way to go, we will make sure this gets added.
