There are 6 presets that consistently and repeatedly cause abrupt and complete loss of audio output with 1-8 seconds of playing:
- Garden of Eden
- Hinterland
- The Chaos Simulator
- Beneath Cavern
- Infinite Depths
- Space Locusts
This occurs whether playing live or MIDI playback in the DAW. I cannot even begin to understand why. My system with the problem:
- Mac mini M2 Pro
- macOS Sequoia 15.7.5
- Scarlet 3rd gen 8i6
- external SSD (Crucial X9 2 TB, USB 3.2 Gen2, APFS)
I did a lot of testing:
- MacBook Air M1 (8 GB RAM) versus Mac mini M2 Pro (16 GB RAM), both running same DAW version, same macOS version, and current Soundbox 1.2.0.
- DAW plugin (Logic Pro 11.2.2) versus the standalone app
- Focusrite audio interface versus headphones versus Mac mini speakers selected as output.
- Tested other Soundbox expansions, including Cosmo, Kromium, Voxmotive, and Mechania, as well as some third party libraries.
This problem only happens on the Mac mini M2 Pro and only with the 6 presets from the Spectra expansion.
- No difference between plugin versus standalone app.
- No difference between different audio output sources.
- None of the other expansions had presets that cause the same problem.
- I also downloaded and reinstalled both Soundbox and the Spectra expansion (I first deleted Spectra and all its files and then imported the new download). This did not make any difference.
Besides the obvious differences in the M1 versus M2 Pro and RAM, the main difference between the two systems is that for my Mac mini, the Soundbox library is on an external SSD. Have you had any similar problems reported for Spectra or any other expansions? As far as I can tell, this is unfixable.
