PB4 quality of life requests and user manual updates

I’m hoping that Audiomodern will take these requests and criticisms constructively and not just get defensive or argue with me. So, here it goes…

After you are done making your 1-3 selections in the AI window, there is no button to get back to the Main sequencer/performance window. Instead, you have to either click the PB banner, which takes us to the “About” page, or the Preset bar, which takes us to the Presets window. In either case, we then have to close those windows to get back to the Main sequencer/Performance window. I don’t understand this workflow and impedes flow state. Please provide a “Go” or “Finalize Selection” or simply a “Close Window” button on the AI page that will close the AI window and take the user back to the Main page where they started from.

The User Manual has many errors and is not up to date with current version. The MIDI Export part of the user manual is wholly insufficient (as previously discussed at great length) and there is no information about the MIDI Import feature.

Is there any way to MIDI export (maybe through automation?) then playback the MIDI within PB4 (using the new MIDI import capability as of v4.0.7) a track note’s pan and pitch information? I have asked this a few times, but have not received a response.

There is a button - you should click an arrow near the AI logo

OMG thank you. It’s like hidden in plain sight.

That’s correct. The manual doesn’t include the MIDI import feature since it was added at the last minute. However, we’ve included a tooltip explanation that appears when you hover over the tab button, detailing how it works within the app. We’ll make a few improvements to the import function and update the manual accordingly.

What part of the midi export is not explained well enough in the manual? Maybe we could clear it up here for you.

What’s the Q button for! It’s not documented in the manual. Is it a Quantize?

I’m wondering about Midi “import” I don’t see it in the manual yet and I’ve tried a drag and drop to Playbeat’s pattern UI and there’s visual indication something might happen when dropping, but no midi shows up. Not seeing an import button on the UI either and I’ve tried various MIDI files and types. Anyone know?

Hi, can you please share some of your MIDI files so we can check what might be the problem here?

Hello, yes I can do that, but first here is how the PB4 pattern area looks every time I’ve tried to drop MIDI on it. I’ve tried maybe 50 files from a wide variety (also diff types) of machines I own and various places. Live browser to PB or Finder to PB. Surely, I’m dropping it on the wrong place or something else?

The MIDI files seem to be working on our end, for example, here’s the “discos” MIDI file loaded into Playbeat.

Can you confirm that the correct mapping is selected in the MIDI import sub-tab under Settings? This ensures that Playbeat assigns the correct MIDI notes to the sequencers, and it’s useful when you have a large collection of MIDI files that have the same mapping.

Ahh! That was it, there was some octave offsets in the MIDI import settings. Not sure how those got changed, but I must have. Thank you
