# Playbeat 4 Samples often do not match to scale

I like the scale feature for pitch but many samples have their own pitch which is not C3. Funny thing: the filename often states the pitch e.g. E3. And I have to manually adjust the sample. Not cool! It is 2025 and Playbeat 4 should have means to determine the pitch of a sample on its own and adjust itself so it plays according to scale.

Hello @kjlietz , thank you for creating the video!
Currently, there is no automatic key detection for the pitch tab, as the system is mainly designed for percussive sounds, and implementing this feature would be a little challenging.
However, the scales are available if you’d like to apply pitch changes, and you can also tune your samples beforehand. If this becomes a widely requested feature, we will definitely look into implementing it as it will be much more accurate with tonal samples.

I considered your answer for some longer time now. You must be aware that your plugin is used in a randomized fashion. That means if samples are off, this makes the whole marketing proposition invalid.
I would say, this update is mostly unnecessary. Playbeat 3 does almost as good a job as Playbeat 4 and I can use my old presets which I are not compatible with Playbeat 4. 😯🤯

Hi! First of all, you can easily tune your sample either from the Sample Editor tab or by using the Root Note control in the Pitch tab, making the process quick if you know your sample’s original tuning.
Secondly, many of our users utilize Playbeat as a MIDI generator to control other drum plugins or even synths, so this feature was highly requested, so we made sure to include it.

I use most of my music apps on iPad, so there’s a lot of desktop apps that I’m not aware of, so I’m curious about what you’ve asked here, because it sounds quite interesting. Can you say more about examples of apps with the capability to automatically detect the native sample pitch and adjust their MIDI output accordingly? If this is too far off topic or too late, no worries.

We agree this would be a great addition. I was simply explaining why it was initially implemented this way. If more users request it, we’ll work on adding it.
